Further Adventures in AI Inspired by All Flows

My collaboration with Claude Code has continued to the point where I’m the happiest I think I’ve ever been with the design, performance, and accessibility of my blog.

Nike Tennis Classic sneakersWhen I last updated you, the design was almost there, but just a little safe. Since then, I’ve attended All Flows 2026 and during the last talk of the conference from the brilliant Dines, found that last little jolt of inspiration I needed – my socks and trainers.

The blue you see is from the Nike Tennis Classic trainers I was wearing, and the yellow from my socks – giving the theme its new name: Sneakers and Socks.

Proving that inspiration can come from the most prosaic and unexpected places.

All Flows 2026

This isn’t really a Now thing, being in the past it’s more of a Then thing, but I must take a moment to comment on how brilliant this year’s All Flows was.

I co-founded and co-presented the first All Flows in 2023 and then stepped back into a more behind-the-scenes role in subsequent years, as being in full-time employment I couldn’t give the same level of time and attention that my friends and co-founders Richard and Simon give.richard and simon all flows 2026

What makes All Flows so special is that in addition to that time and attention, Richard and Simon pour huge amounts of love and care into the event, curating every aspect from speakers to tote bags.

This was the first All Flows since the first that I’ve been able to attend both days – OK, I had to miss one talk to go home and deal with work bullshit, but luckily it was the only speaker I’d seen before.

I can’t remember being so inspired by a conference for years, and as I type this, I realise that All Flows 2026 needs a post of its own.

Ghosts of Blog Posts Past Part Two

I’m continuing to slowly tidy up and optimise my blog post archive. It’s fascinating and sad in equal measure to see how much has changed over the lifespan of this blog. How many broken links and sites that no longer exist. How often Twitter featured in both posts and links, and how positive a place it used to be. It reminds me of the post by Anil Dash — The Web We Lost. The tech bros killed the web I loved…

New Adventures in AI

I’ve been continuing my experimentation with AI, specifically Claude Code, and you’re looking at the results. Claude Code has helped me resurrect an old site design that I built years ago but had to abandon as I couldn’t make the media queries work for modern devices. I tried to fix it with both Claude and ChatGPT in the middle of last year, and neither could fix the issues. It’s amazing how much the tools and specifically Claude Code have advanced in just a few months.

Claude Code mascotI’ve been seriously impressed by Claude Code and have enjoyed working with it. At work, my team of designers and developers are all remote, and so working with them tends to be asynchronous and via the medium of text, so working with Claude has essentially been like that, but much quicker… Which has me thinking that my experience and UX expertise combined with Claude Code and Design could replace much of the initial phases of a digital transformation project.

So what has Claude helped me deliver? A fully responsive, fully accessible, lightweight blog theme tailored exactly to my needs. I have a dark mode theme for the first time, which was actually my starting experiment with Claude Design. In the space of a year, I’ve gone from AI cynic to AI proponent. I just wish I could use AI in my workplace.

Ghosts of Blog Posts Past

As part of the design process, I’ve revisited every post on here, fixing either presentation or structural issues. I’ve removed a few old posts, some of the many broken links, and tried to avoid rewriting some of the slightly suspect writing. One thing that came across to me re-reading the older posts is how much more optimistic both I and the world felt back in the day.

I was a little sad to revisit the weeknotes I used to write when I can barely fill this Now page on a monthly basis.

4 April 2026

2026 continues to disappear at an alarming rate.

At the beginning of the week, I saw favourite author Ben Aaronovitch in conversation at the British Library, another reminder of why I love living within such easy reach of London. Ben was in conversation with another author, Mark Stay, who I’d not come across before. I’m now halfway through Mark’s first book, The Crow People, and loving it.

Following that I spent a lovely couple of days in Bristol with my wife, including a phenomenal dinner at Wilsons.

Having been an AI cynic for some time, I’m finally on board the hype train and using AI. Claude Cowork has been the tipping point for me, as I’m sure it is for many others. Claude Cowork is Claude Code for normal people, and what it can do is quite extraordinary and, for the first time, actually useful.
