Gimme Shelter (Deconstructed)

I can’t remember how I came across the Studio Multitracks site, and specifically this post on Gimme Shelter, but it’s fascinating.

I’m a latter day Stones fan having only really ‘got’ their music last year – it just clicked one day.

My wife bought me Keith Richards autobiography Life for Christmas which is a great story. Keith is renowned as “riff master” having created, and played some of the most famous riffs in rock and roll; so being able to hear him play with just a hint of drums is wonderful. Keith seldom uses effects pedals so the sound here is a man and his guitar.

His playing is deceptively subtle and simple yet incredibly powerful at the same time. His reputation is fully deserved.
