Advert Of The (Previous) Decade

Viewers of the UK TV station ITV have voted for the advert of the decade, even though technically this decade doesn’t end until the end of 2010, but what’s another year between friends. The winner was the excellent ‘Go On Lad’ from Hovis:

I was going to challenge this, and say that they were wrong, all of them, wrong, and that the best advert of the decade was St George from Tango, but I’m alarmed to find that this advert dates back to 1997 – the decade before. Time flies and all that…

Anyway here now is the advert of the previous decade; St George from Tango:

Project52

I’ve decided to sign-up for Project52 next year;  which according to the Project52 website is:

A personal challenge geared toward getting fresh content on your website. The goal is to write at least 1 new article per week for 1 year. Because we all know what it‘s like to procrastinate on our content. A website is not just a fresh design that can be uploaded to the web and forgotten about!

Why have I decided to join Project52? For fun and for the challenge as much as anything, but also because I feel blogs and blogging have become slightly neglected in our new online world of micro-blogging.

So a new blog post, each week, every week for 2010 – should be fun.

Downpipe

A great video for a great track. In fact Downpipe is the single best track I’ve heard all year, and I urge you to run, don’t walk, to your nearest musical vending outlet of choice and purchase it now.

Toolroom Records describes Downpipe beautifully:

Downpipe has a massively infectious groove that builds excitement from start to end as the collaborative talents involved create an all-consuming journey that marks the first ever collaboration in the history of Underworld that sees a stunning return to international dance floors for one of electronic music’s most iconic voices

– Karl Hyde.

I love Karl Hyde’s voice and lyrics, and both are on top form with this track. The video below is just the radio edit; you really need the Club Mix for the full Downpipe experience.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness

I love my iPhone, I really do, but every now and then I find myself hankering for something simpler, smaller and well just different. I think the new Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness could stop that hankering.

The display is monochrome (gasp) but also transparent as demonstrated in this video:

The keyboard is invisible until activated; so half the phone is transparent while the other half is invisible.

Amazingly the Xperia Pureness is an HSDPA phone and has a web browser, although I’m not sure how good the browsing experience will be on a mono transparent screen, but then again I guess that’s not the point. The Xperia Pureness doesn’t even have a camera, but it does have access to a concierge service à la Vertu.

The only problem…the price: £600 and only from Selfridges.
