SEO is a full time job which you will have to devote a lot of resources to and it takes time to see the results. Waiting to see if your Page Rank goes up is like watching the grass grow.

As for trying to figure out the whole google thing I wouldn't bother. There are better ways to spend your time.

I think I'm gonna give up on the whole SEO thing. I'll keep writing and linking as I am now and if the Google algorithm is any good over time I'm sure that the disparity between google.com and .co.uk will reduce and reach a state of equilibrium :-)

That's interesting. There are two reasons I have been commenting more: the first is to become more involved in the "blogosphere" to become more engaged rather than just publishing and the second was to increase traffic to my blog both through people following the link and hopefully via search engines.

Does it actually help SEO to post lots of comments on blogs? Most blogs tag commenters links with rel="nofollow" which tells search engine spiders to ignore them. This was introduced to combat the rise of comment spam but I don't know if it's really had much effect.

Are you using Google Analytics to find this stuff out? That's who I use, and it tends to tell me all the useless stats I didn't even want to know!
